Prices in the Gulf aren't fixed — they move with a calendar of festivals, national days and global sale events. If you can wait a few weeks for a big purchase, you can often save 20–50% or more. Here's when the major sales happen in each Gulf country, and how to make the most of them without overspending.

UAE highlights

  • Dubai Shopping Festival is the big one: weeks of mall-wide discounts, raffles, gold promotions and short "flash" super sales. If you're planning to buy gold, DSF is often when jewellers cut making charges — see our guide to buying gold in Dubai.
  • Dubai Summer Surprises fills the quieter summer months with family-focused offers.
  • White Friday in late November is usually the best time for electronics and appliances online.

Saudi Arabia highlights

  • Ramadan and Eid are peak shopping periods for groceries, clothes and gifts.
  • Saudi National Day (23 September) brings some of the deepest discounts of the year across electronics, furniture and even cars — offers often start a week or more before the day.
  • Founding Day (22 February) has grown into a second national retail event.
  • Riyadh Season runs through the cooler months and brings event-linked promotions.

Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman

  • Kuwait: Hala February combines national celebrations with mall-wide sales.
  • Qatar, Bahrain and Oman: national days, Ramadan, Eid and White Friday are the main sale periods.

How to really save (not just spend more)

  1. Make a list before the sale starts — and stick to it. A discount on something you didn't need is a cost, not a saving.
  2. Track prices for a few weeks before so you can spot "discounts" from inflated prices.
  3. Compare online and in-store; marketplaces often match or beat mall prices.
  4. Check warranty and return policies, especially for electronics bought in flash sales.
  5. Be careful with buy now, pay later. Several small instalments during sale season add up fast — read our Tabby review first.
  6. Use your best cashback card for the purchase, and pay the balance in full.
  7. Set aside the money in advance: our savings goal calculator tells you how much to put away each month for a planned purchase.

Tourists: don't forget VAT refunds

In the UAE, tourists can claim back most of the 5% VAT on eligible purchases from participating shops — ask for a tax-free tag at the till and validate before you fly.

The bottom line

Almost every big purchase in the Gulf has a better time of year. Plan around the sales calendar, set your budget in advance, and the savings are real.
