How it works
Nisab
Zakat is due when your wealth reaches the nisab: the value of 85 g of pure gold or 595 g of silver. Many scholars recommend the silver nisab because it is lower and benefits more people in need.
Rate and timing
Zakat is 2.5% of your total zakatable wealth once it has stayed above the nisab for a full lunar (Hijri) year.
