The workmanship fee the jeweller adds
These are international spot prices converted to your currency. Jewellery shops charge more because of making charges and VAT (5% in the UAE, 15% in Saudi Arabia), and the buy-back price they offer you is usually a little lower.

How it works
How the gram price is calculated
We divide the spot price of one troy ounce (31.1 g) of pure gold by its grams, convert it to your currency and multiply by purity: 22K = 91.7%, 21K = 87.5%, 18K = 75%.
Why the shop price is higher
Jewellers add making charges, VAT (5% in the UAE, 15% in Saudi Arabia) and their margin. In Dubai, retail rates are published daily by the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group and track the spot price closely.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 24K and 22K gold?
24K is almost pure (99.9%) and used for bars and coins. 22K is 91.7% gold mixed with other metals for strength, and is the most popular choice for jewellery among Indian and Pakistani buyers.
Is gold cheaper in Dubai?
The gold itself is priced off the same global spot rate, but Dubai's competitive making charges and VAT refunds for eligible tourists can make jewellery cheaper than in many countries.
How often are prices updated?
Gold prices refresh every few minutes from the global market, and exchange rates update daily.
