How it works
Where the rates come from
These are mid-market reference rates updated daily. The AED (3.6725), SAR (3.75), QAR (3.64), BHD and OMR are pegged to the US dollar, so they move together; the Kuwaiti dinar tracks a basket of currencies.
Getting the best remittance rate
Exchange houses and apps add a margin on top of the mid-market rate plus a transfer fee. Compare the amount the recipient actually gets, not just the advertised rate.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my bank's rate different?
Banks and exchange houses add a spread between buy and sell rates. The rate shown here is the mid-market rate, so the rate you get will usually be slightly worse.
What is the AED to USD rate?
The UAE dirham has been pegged at 3.6725 AED per US dollar since 1997.
When is the best time to send money home?
Gulf currencies follow the dollar, so the rate depends on how the rupee, peso or pound moves against the USD. Nobody can predict short-term moves reliably — focus on low fees.
