How it works

UAE (Decree-Law 33 of 2021)

21 days of basic salary for each of the first five years and 30 days for every year after that, capped at two years' pay. You need at least one year of continuous service, and part years are paid pro rata. Resigning no longer reduces your gratuity. DIFC employees are covered by the DEWS savings plan instead.

Saudi Arabia (Articles 84–85)

Half a month's wage for each of the first five years and a full month for each year after, based on your last actual wage (basic + housing + fixed allowances). If you resign: nothing under 2 years, one-third from 2–5 years, two-thirds from 5–10 years, and the full amount after 10 years.

Kuwait (Law 6 of 2010)

15 days' pay for each of the first five years and one month's pay for each year after, capped at 18 months' pay. Resigning cuts the award: none under 3 years, half from 3–5, two-thirds from 5–10 and full after 10.

Qatar (Law 14 of 2004)

At least three weeks' basic wage for every year of service once you complete one year. The gratuity is also paid when you resign.

Frequently asked questions

Is UAE gratuity calculated on basic or gross salary?

On your last basic salary only. Housing, transport and other allowances are not included unless your contract says otherwise.

Do I get gratuity if I resign in the UAE?

Yes. Under the current law employees who resign after at least one year receive the full gratuity — the old reductions for resignation no longer apply.

How is the daily wage worked out?

In the UAE and Qatar the daily wage is the monthly basic salary ÷ 30. Kuwait uses ÷ 26 for monthly-paid workers. Saudi law counts in months, so no daily rate is needed.

Is this calculator accurate?

It applies the text of each labour law, but your final figure can differ for dismissal for gross misconduct, unpaid leave, special contract terms, free zones such as DIFC/ADGM, or government jobs.
