iPhone Duo vs Galaxy Z Fold 8 vs Xiaomi 18 Fold: Which Wide Foldable Should You Buy in 2026?
Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi all launched wide foldables in 2026. We compare cameras, battery, weight and price — and pick a winner in every category.

For years, foldable phones had one problem everyone who tried them noticed: the outside screen was so tall and narrow that typing on it was a chore, and the inside screen was almost square, so videos played with huge black bars. In 2026 the three biggest phone makers solved it in much the same way — with a "wide" foldable that looks like a normal phone when closed and opens up into something close to a small tablet.
Samsung went first in July with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its new wide design. Xiaomi revealed the Xiaomi 18 Fold in September, and two days later Apple entered the category for the first time with the iPhone Duo. Three phones with a similar idea — but big differences in the details: cameras, battery, price and, crucially, whether you can actually buy them in the Gulf. Here's the full comparison.

The three phones at a glance
| Spec | iPhone Duo | Galaxy Z Fold 8 | Xiaomi 18 Fold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Announced | 9 September 2026 | 22 July 2026 | September 2026 |
| Inner display | 7.6", 120Hz | 7.6", 120Hz | 7.58", 120Hz |
| Cover display | 5.4" | 5.5" | 5.38" |
| Peak brightness | 3,000 nits | 3,000 nits | 4,000 nits |
| Chip | A20 Pro | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 | XRING O3 (Xiaomi's own) |
| RAM | 12GB | 12GB or 16GB | 12GB or 16GB |
| Max storage | 2TB | 1TB | 1TB |
| Weight | 254g | 201g | 219g |
| Thickness (folded) | 11.3mm | 9.7mm | 10.68mm |
| Water resistance | IP68 | IP48 | Not stated |
| Starting price | $1,999 | $1,899 | From ¥10,999 (about $1,540) |
Design: which is lightest and thinnest?

Samsung wins this one clearly. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the lightest Fold Samsung has ever made at 201g, just 4.5mm thick when open and 9.7mm folded — in your pocket it's not far off a large regular phone. Xiaomi is close behind at 219g and 10.68mm folded.
Apple took a different route: the iPhone Duo is noticeably the heaviest (254g) and the thickest when folded (11.3mm). In return it uses a titanium frame and titanium hinge cover and gets IP68 water and dust resistance — better than Samsung's IP48, which protects against water but offers only limited dust protection. If you take your phone to the desert or the beach, that's worth thinking about.

Displays: watching and typing
The three are very close in size and all run at 120Hz on both screens. The real differences are in the details:
- Xiaomi has the brightest screen (4,000 nits), which you'll notice under the Gulf sun.
- Apple has worked on reducing the crease using clear adhesive layers that let the display slide as it folds, and added an anti-reflective coating to the inner screen.
- Samsung has the largest cover screen (5.5"), the most comfortable for typing and one-handed use without opening the phone.

Performance
Each phone uses its maker's most powerful chip. The iPhone's A20 Pro comes with a vapour-chamber cooling system, and Apple says it's up to 20% faster than the A19 Pro on the CPU. Samsung's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the most powerful Android chip on sale worldwide and comes with seven years of software updates. The XRING O3 is Xiaomi's own 3nm chip, clocked at up to 4.35GHz.

Day to day you won't feel much difference between them. It shows in heavy games and AI apps — and in how long each phone gets updates, which decides what it's worth in two or three years.
Cameras: Xiaomi leads by a distance
| Camera | iPhone Duo | Galaxy Z Fold 8 | Xiaomi 18 Fold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main | 48MP | 50MP | 200MP (Leica) |
| Ultra-wide | 48MP | 50MP | 50MP |
| Telephoto | None (2x optical-quality crop) | None | 50MP 3.5x periscope |
| Selfie | 12MP + under-display camera | 10MP on both screens | 16MP on both screens |
| Max video | 4K at 120fps with Dolby Vision | 8K at 30fps | Not specified |
Xiaomi is the only one of the three with a real telephoto lens, and its 200MP main camera is co-engineered with Leica. If photography — especially portraits and distant detail — is your priority, it wins easily. Apple bets on image and video processing and has historically led on video. Samsung dropped the telephoto lens on its wide model, one of the main compromises for its low weight.

Battery and charging
| Battery | iPhone Duo | Galaxy Z Fold 8 | Xiaomi 18 Fold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capacity | Not disclosed (dual-cell) | 4,800mAh | 6,000mAh |
| Wired charging | 50% in 20 minutes | 45W | 67W |
| Wireless charging | 25W MagSafe | 20W | 50W |
| Video playback (claimed) | Up to 31 hours on the inner screen | Up to 26 hours | Not specified |
On paper Xiaomi is strongest: the biggest battery and the fastest wired and wireless charging. Apple, as usual, didn't disclose capacity, but its claimed playback figures are high. Samsung comes last here — the price of being the lightest and thinnest.

Price and availability in the Gulf
| Phone | Starting price | In AED (approx., before VAT) | Availability in the Gulf |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold 8 | $1,899 | About AED 6,970 | On sale since August 2026 |
| iPhone Duo | $1,999 | About AED 7,340 | Pre-orders from 16 October, on sale from 23 October in launch countries |
| Xiaomi 18 Fold | From ¥10,999 | About AED 5,660 | China only, with no announced plans to sell elsewhere |
Xiaomi's lower price is tempting, but be careful: it's officially sold only in China, and reports suggest Xiaomi has no plans to sell it elsewhere for now. Importing one usually means a different software experience, no local warranty, possibly missing Google services and not every network band supported. Local prices in the UAE and Saudi Arabia are usually higher than a straight currency conversion once VAT is added.
Pros and cons in brief
| Phone | Biggest strengths | Biggest weaknesses |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone Duo | IP68, titanium build, iOS apps optimised for folding, up to 2TB | Heaviest, thickest and most expensive; no telephoto |
| Galaxy Z Fold 8 | Lightest and thinnest, 7 years of updates, available locally now | Smallest battery, no telephoto, limited dust protection |
| Xiaomi 18 Fold | Best camera with telephoto, biggest battery, fastest charging, lowest price | China only; water resistance not stated |
Which should you choose?
Choose the iPhone Duo if you already use an iPhone and other Apple devices, want the best water and dust protection and the most storage, and don't mind the extra weight.
Choose the Galaxy Z Fold 8 if you want the lightest foldable possible, available now with a local warranty, plus the longest update promise of the three.
Choose the Xiaomi 18 Fold if camera and battery are your top priorities and you're comfortable importing a phone from China without a local warranty.
FAQs
What is a "wide" foldable?
A folding phone whose cover screen is as wide as a normal phone instead of the tall, narrow shape of earlier models, with a wider inner screen that shows videos and games with smaller black bars.
Is the iPhone Duo available in the UAE?
Apple set pre-orders for 16 October and availability from 23 October in launch countries. Check Apple's website for your country or ask authorised resellers.
Which of the three takes the best photos?
On paper, the Xiaomi 18 Fold — it's the only one with a periscope telephoto lens and a 200MP main camera. Apple is a strong rival for video.
Is the screen crease still visible?
It's much less noticeable on all three than on early foldables, and Apple says it has reduced it significantly, but a faint line can still show at certain angles on most folding phones.
The verdict
There's no outright winner — which is good news for buyers. Samsung made the most balanced, pocketable phone and you can buy it today. Apple made the toughest and best-integrated one, at a premium price. Xiaomi made the strongest camera and battery package at the lowest price, but with very limited availability. If you're in the Gulf and buying now, the real contest is Samsung vs Apple, and the operating system you already use will probably decide it.
