Few debates in the Gulf are older — or more heated — than Land Cruiser or Patrol? This time the fight is closer than ever. Nissan has launched the seventh-generation Patrol with a new twin-turbo engine and a cabin packed with technology, while the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 keeps its reputation for reliability and resale value. We put both side by side using official specs and published prices in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, so you can choose on the numbers, not habit.

Specs side by side
| Spec | Toyota Land Cruiser 300 | Nissan Patrol (7th gen) |
|---|---|---|
| Top petrol engine | 3.5L twin-turbo V6 | 3.5L twin-turbo V6 |
| Power | 409 hp (415 PS) | 425 hp |
| Torque | 650 Nm | 700 Nm |
| Alternative engine | 3.3L twin-turbo diesel V6 (302 hp, 700 Nm) in Saudi Arabia; 4.0L V6 on some Kuwaiti trims | 3.8L naturally aspirated V6 (316 hp, 386 Nm) |
| Gearbox | 10-speed automatic | 9-speed automatic |
| Drivetrain | Full-time 4WD | Full-time 4WD |
| Length | 4,985 mm | 5,350 mm |
| Width | 1,980 mm | 2,030 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,850 mm | 3,075 mm |
| Fuel tank | 110 litres | Not stated in the official release |
| Rated economy (Saudi Arabia) | 10.1 km/L petrol, 12.8 km/L diesel | Varies by engine and trim |
The biggest difference is size: the new Patrol is about 36 cm longer with a wheelbase roughly 22 cm longer. That means a roomier third row and more boot space — and a bigger car to park in the city.
Performance: Patrol wins on paper

For the first time in years the Patrol drops its V8 for a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 425 hp and 700 Nm — 16 hp and 50 Nm more than the Land Cruiser. The Toyota answers with a 10-speed gearbox and an engine that has been proven since the 300 Series launched in 2021.
On the road, the difference in everyday driving is small; both are far more powerful than most drivers need. The more important gap is at entry level: the base Patrol uses the 3.8-litre non-turbo V6 (316 hp), while the Land Cruiser in Saudi Arabia offers a diesel option that's more economical for long-distance drivers.

Design and cabin: Patrol bets on technology

Inside, the new Patrol changes almost everything. Nissan's highlights:
- A 28.6-inch "Monolith" display made of two 14.3-inch screens, with NissanConnect powered by Google built-in.
- Two 12.8-inch rear screens for passengers (optional by trim).
- A 12-speaker Klipsch sound system and 64-colour ambient lighting.
- Zero Gravity seats with massage and cooling, plus climate control that reads passenger temperature with infrared sensors.
- A panoramic sunroof and easier third-row access.

The Land Cruiser is more conservative: a practical, durable cabin, a central touchscreen of up to 12.3 inches on higher trims, and physical buttons for its off-road systems. Tech lovers will be more impressed by the Patrol; those who value simplicity and toughness will feel at home in the Toyota.
Off-road: two champions, different tools
| System | Land Cruiser 300 | New Patrol |
|---|---|---|
| Suspension | E-KDSS electronic system for wheel articulation (by trim) | Adaptive air suspension with adjustable ride height (by trim) |
| Drive modes | Multi-Terrain Select with automatic surface detection | Six modes: standard, sand, rock, mud/rut, eco, sport |
| Cameras | Multi-Terrain Monitor to see around and under the car | Invisible Hood View and 3D 360-degree Around View |
| Platform | GA-F platform about 200 kg lighter than the previous model and 20% stiffer | All-new generation with air suspension and updated 4WD |

For dune bashing and desert trips, the Patrol's air suspension and dedicated sand mode feel tailor-made for the Gulf, while the Land Cruiser relies on a mechanical-electronic suspension system proven in the toughest conditions worldwide.

Safety
- Land Cruiser: Toyota Safety Sense with day-and-night pedestrian detection, emergency steering assist and Parking Support Brake.
- Patrol: ProPILOT Assist adaptive cruise and lane keeping, front and rear automatic emergency braking, and seven airbags plus knee airbags for the first time in a Patrol.

The key detail: in Saudi Arabia the Land Cruiser's twin-turbo engine comes from the base trim, while the Patrol's twin-turbo needs an LE trim that starts higher. At the top end the Patrol is more expensive, but it brings more technology for the money.

Resale value and reliability
The Land Cruiser is known in the Gulf for holding its resale value exceptionally well — one of the biggest reasons for its popularity — and the 300 Series has been on sale since 2021, so workshops and parts are widely available. The new Patrol is an all-new generation with a new engine; its long-term reliability and resale value are not yet proven, which is normal in the first years of any new model.

FAQs
Is the new Patrol more powerful than the Land Cruiser?
Yes, on paper: 425 hp and 700 Nm versus 409 hp and 650 Nm for the Land Cruiser's twin-turbo petrol engine.
Does the new Patrol still have a V8?
No. The seventh generation uses two V6 engines: a 3.5-litre twin-turbo and a 3.8-litre naturally aspirated unit.
Which is more fuel-efficient?
The diesel Land Cruiser, rated at 12.8 km/L in Saudi Arabia. Between the petrol engines, economy is similar and depends heavily on how you drive.
Which is better for the desert?
Both are extremely capable. The Patrol offers height-adjustable air suspension and a dedicated sand mode; the Land Cruiser relies on its proven E-KDSS and Multi-Terrain Select systems.
The verdict
The new Nissan Patrol is the more powerful, more spacious and more high-tech choice — ideal if you want the latest in the class and accept first-generation risk. The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 is the safer bet on proven reliability and resale value, offers its twin-turbo at a lower starting price in Saudi Arabia, and still gives you a diesel option. If the car is a long-term asset you'll sell in a few years, the Land Cruiser makes more sense. If driving enjoyment and technology today matter more, the Patrol deserves a test drive.
