This selection organises the guide; it does not determine eligibility. GCC nationals may have a separate route. Check nationality and residence/employment category on the authority’s page. Complete applications and submit documents with the linked provider.

Your checklist

Your first 30 days

A planning sequence, not a legal deadline or a promise of completion within a month. Start parallel requirements early. Check a task when completed or confirmed inapplicable. Only checklist progress is saved in this browser, separately for each country.

7 services for this selection — sources reviewed:

Work or family residence

Residence-visa arrivals and the employer/sponsor responsible for the application.

Prepare before starting

Passport, visa and sponsor, employment or relationship evidence for the category.

  1. 1. Confirm residence category with the employer or sponsor before travel or a status change.
  2. 2. Check with the Interior Ministry for the medical, biometric and document requirements for your case.
  3. 3. The authorised applicant submits first-time residence through the ministry-designated channel.
  4. 4. Track missing items and fees, then verify residence issuance and card details.

Employment and family residence have different conditions and applicants. Resident card issuance depends on completing residence requirements.

Qatar ID card (QID)

Citizens and residents use different issuance services.

Prepare before starting

ID/passport, category details and photo or biometrics as required by the service.

  1. 1. Citizens: use ID services at Nationality and Travel Documents; residents start with the residence file.
  2. 2. Check the ministry list for attachments, attendance or biometrics required for that issuance type.
  3. 3. Apply through the authorised channel and follow status and official fee payment.
  4. 4. Check name and validity on collection and keep the transaction reference.

An expatriate without completed residence should not assume a standalone ID application replaces it.

Qatari driving licence

Citizens and residents meeting Traffic requirements.

Prepare before starting

QID and the documents and medical checks required for the selected training route.

  1. 1. Confirm category eligibility and whether a foreign licence qualifies for exchange, testing or training.
  2. 2. Where training is needed, choose an authorised school and open a file under Traffic and screening requirements.
  3. 3. Complete required training and tests, then request licence issuance and pay official fees.

Visitor or international driving arrangements are different from resident licence eligibility.

Open a personal account in Qatar

Citizens and residents; newcomers without QID may have a conditional or restricted route.

Prepare before starting

QNB example: original passport and QID; confirm your own category’s requirements with the bank.

  1. 1. Choose an account and check newcomer eligibility, documents and fees.
  2. 2. Start through the bank’s available official digital or branch channel.
  3. 3. Submit identity documents and complete customer checks; ask about restrictions pending QID.
  4. 4. After approval and activation, keep the IBAN and review card, transfer and payroll details.

QNB is a procedural example, not an approval guarantee. Pre-arrival opening does not imply immediate full functionality.

Business formation, registration and licence

Local and foreign investors subject to activity eligibility.

Prepare before starting

Partner, name, activity, legal-form, premises and approval information for the selected route.

  1. 1. Choose activity and legal form and verify local or foreign ownership conditions.
  2. 2. From the Commerce Ministry guide, open Single Window and choose the relevant investor procedure.
  3. 3. Follow naming, formation and registration requirements and attach the requested documents and approvals.
  4. 4. Complete the commercial licence and premises/activity conditions before operating.

Registration does not replace premises licensing or sector approvals; check location eligibility before committing to a lease.

Apply for a health card

Citizens and residents under PHCC categories.

Prepare before starting

QID, photo and area-of-residence evidence; children and other categories have additional requirements.

  1. 1. Open PHCC’s guide, identify your category and prepare the required documents.
  2. 2. Start the application through Nar’aakom, or contact the nearby health centre under the official instructions.
  3. 3. Complete file details and the accepted payment method, then track the card request.
  4. 4. Check the assigned centre, card and validity before requesting appointments.

The card provides access to subsidised services under the system; it does not make every treatment free.

Housing and KAHRAMAA Move In

Tenants or owners according to utility responsibility in the lease.

Prepare before starting

Identity, property, meter and lease details requested by KAHRAMAA.

  1. 1. Review whether electricity, water and cooling are included in rent or separately billed.
  2. 2. Open KAHRAMAA customer services and choose Move In if tenant registration is required.
  3. 3. Enter property details and attachments, choose the available connection date and complete any requested deposit.
  4. 4. Track activation and keep the account number, handover reading and deposit receipt.

District cooling may be billed separately from KAHRAMAA; check each account before signing the lease.

Links go to government authorities or providers themselves. Some begin with a guide leading to an application or require sign-in. Final fees, appointments and attachments are set by the provider for your category and may vary by city or emirate.

Plan before you move

Living budget by city

Enter housing quotes and your own estimates; this is your budget, not a survey of city prices. Create a plan for each city to compare here. Figures last only while this page is open and are not saved in browser storage or sent to our server.

Monthly expenses

For annual tuition or insurance, for example; divided by 12 for planning. Do not enter the same cost as both monthly and annual.

Moving cash — separate from living costs

Your starting point

Separate living costs from remittances and compare the amount the recipient actually receives.

Choose QAR in calculators with a currency selector. Check the selected jurisdiction in tools that use local rules.
