This selection organises the guide; it does not determine eligibility. GCC nationals may have a separate route. Check nationality and residence/employment category on the authority’s page. Complete applications and submit documents with the linked provider.

Your checklist

Your first 30 days

A planning sequence, not a legal deadline or a promise of completion within a month. Start parallel requirements early. Check a task when completed or confirmed inapplicable. Only checklist progress is saved in this browser, separately for each country.

7 services for this selection — sources reviewed:

Employment permit and employee residence

Employment arrivals and their authorised employer.

Prepare before starting

Passport, employment, screening and approval documents for the permit category.

  1. 1. Confirm permit type with the employer; company employment differs from family and domestic-worker routes.
  2. 2. The employer selects a new work permit from LMRA services and completes details and attachments.
  3. 3. Complete screening and registration under the application instructions, and track approval and fees through the authority.
  4. 4. Verify residence status, then complete the appropriate ID-card process.

Work permit, residence and ID card are distinct. A visit visa is not a work permit.

Identity card and address updates

Citizens and residents under the relevant iGA service.

Prepare before starting

ID/passport and residence/address evidence required for the issuance category.

  1. 1. Review iGA’s guide and choose first issuance, renewal or address update for your status and nationality.
  2. 2. Prepare attachments and verify address/residence details before using the online service available to your category.
  3. 3. If attendance is required, book an appointment, complete biometrics or record updates, then follow collection instructions.

ID-card validity is separate from residence validity. Expatriate employee procedures may depend on LMRA records.

Learner permit and driving licence

Citizens and residents meeting Traffic conditions.

Prepare before starting

Valid ID and learner-permit/screening documents for the relevant category.

  1. 1. Open Driving School Services and select learner-licence issuance subject to eligibility.
  2. 2. Complete checks and documents and choose an authorised instructor for the required training.
  3. 3. Book the driving test, then complete issuance and fees through Traffic services after passing.

If you hold a foreign licence, check exchange eligibility first; acceptance is not automatic.

Open a personal account in Bahrain

Applicants eligible for the selected account type.

Prepare before starting

CPR, passport and residence/income documents under the bank’s requirements.

  1. 1. Choose an account and review salary, balance, charges and resident/non-resident conditions.
  2. 2. Prepare the bank’s documents; the BBK example lists category-specific identity and income requirements.
  3. 3. Apply through an available bank channel and complete verification; after approval check IBAN, card and activation.

BBK is an example, not a rule for every bank. Check the account type before relying on any salary threshold.

Commercial registration and licensing through Sijilat

Founders eligible for the legal form, activity and nationality.

Prepare before starting

Partner, name, activity, address and approval information for the application.

  1. 1. Use Sijilat guides to select activity and legal form and check ownership conditions.
  2. 2. Sign in using the required eKey and submit registration details and attachments.
  3. 3. Complete activity licensing, authority and premises approvals; track the application and payments in Sijilat.
  4. 4. Confirm licensing and obligations are complete before operating.

A registration without a licence does not authorise every activity. Sijili has specific eligibility and is not available to every resident.

Health centre and treatment coverage

Citizens and residents according to their records and available cover.

Prepare before starting

ID, address and insurance/medical-file information requested by the provider.

  1. 1. Use the Health Ministry directory to find the centre serving your area.
  2. 2. Confirm registration, address and category-specific documents with the centre.
  3. 3. Check cover with your employer or insurer, then use the official appointment channel available to you.

Holding ID does not mean every treatment is free or every facility covered; verify eligibility and charges.

Open a housing electricity/water account

Tenants or owners meeting EWA requirements.

Prepare before starting

ID, lease/registration and property details; owner and tenant checklists differ.

  1. 1. Review utility responsibility in the lease, then select owner or tenant on EWA.
  2. 2. Submit the account application and attachments and complete required payment arrangements.
  3. 3. Pay the required tenant deposit, track activation and retain the account number and receipt.

Payment arrangements and deposits depend on category; do not assume every account receives a subsidised tariff.

Links go to government authorities or providers themselves. Some begin with a guide leading to an application or require sign-in. Final fees, appointments and attachments are set by the provider for your category and may vary by city or emirate.

Plan before you move

Living budget by city

Enter housing quotes and your own estimates; this is your budget, not a survey of city prices. Create a plan for each city to compare here. Figures last only while this page is open and are not saved in browser storage or sent to our server.

Monthly expenses

For annual tuition or insurance, for example; divided by 12 for planning. Do not enter the same cost as both monthly and annual.

Moving cash — separate from living costs

Your starting point

Turn annual bills into a monthly allowance so they do not become unexpected debt.

Choose BHD in calculators with a currency selector. Check the selected jurisdiction in tools that use local rules.
