The real fees
Opening an account is free, but some transactions carry charges. The figures below come from Weyay's official fee schedule (May 2026 edition):
| Transaction | Fee |
|---|---|
| Account opening | Free |
| Cash withdrawal at other local banks' ATMs | 100 fils |
| Balance enquiry at other local banks' ATMs | 50 fils |
| Cash withdrawal outside Kuwait | 3% or KD 1.250, whichever is higher |
| Card purchases in foreign currency, or in KWD outside Kuwait | 2.75% added to the exchange rate |
| Replacing a lost or damaged card | KD 10 (free if there's a printing defect) |
| Multicurrency prepaid card | KD 15 |
| Declined transaction for insufficient balance | 50 fils in Kuwait, 150 fils abroad |
International transfers: according to Weyay's FAQ, flat fees apply from the end of August 2026. For example, KD 1 to India, Pakistan or Sri Lanka, KD 5 to the Middle East and the GCC, KD 6.500 to Europe and KD 10 to North America.
Travel tip: a 2.75% charge on every foreign-currency purchase adds up quickly. If you travel often, load the multicurrency card in the currency you need before you go, and check the rate with our currency converter first.
Pros and cons

| Saving pots, spending tracking and bill splitting | Conventional, not Islamic: savings returns are interest |
| 24/7 WhatsApp support | Some charges need a careful read of the fee schedule |
Who is Weyay for?
- University students who want to receive their allowance and manage spending from their phone.
- Parents who want a supervised Jeel card for a child aged 8 to 14, or a first account and a prepaid card with clear limits for an older child.
- Anyone building a saving habit with pots and goals.
- Occasional travellers, as long as they use the multicurrency card wisely.
If you want Islamic banking only, or need wider banking services for a business, the parent bank or another bank will suit you better.
Tips for getting the most out of it
- Withdraw cash from NBK ATMs to avoid other banks' fees.
- Turn on notifications and review every transaction in the app as it happens.
- Give each saving pot a clear goal and a date. Plan it with our budget planner.
- Don't take a loan for something you'd consume quickly just because applying from your phone is easy.

The verdict
Weyay is one of the best choices in Kuwait for a first bank account. It's easy, fast and backed by one of the country's largest banks, and it teaches young people to manage their money from the start. Its main weakness is the cost of foreign-currency transactions and cash withdrawals abroad, so travellers need to plan how they use it. As an everyday account for spending and saving inside Kuwait, it's an excellent option.
Information from Weyay's official website, its FAQ and Jeel FAQ, its official fee schedule (May 2026) and its App Store listing, as of October 2026. Fees and features can change, so check the app before you decide. This is an educational review, not a recommendation of any financial product.
